TOPICS: SERIALISATION in Spring 2026 (CW5091A)

This course explores serialization, a dominant phenomenon in contemporary literature and TV. We will examine what happens to readers, reading, writing and storytelling when the logic of serialization is at work. We will consider concepts including immersion, tension, realism, narrative, social consciousness, adaptation and fandom. We will read examples of literature from the nineteenth century and the present day and think critically about contemporary TV.
