WEB APPLICATIONS (CS3051)

This course introduces core web technologies and the fundamentals of building web applications. Students learn how web-apps work, explore key internet concepts, and examine ethical considerations in web design (e.g. intellectual property and accessibility). The course will use up-to-date tools and frameworks for web development. Students will create a full-stack web app. Prior programming experience is required.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to create full-stack web applications using contemporary professional technologies.
  2. The course meets CS major learning outcomes including: Knowledge: you will understand the theory, practices, and tools for the specification, design, implementation, and evaluation of digital systems.
  3. The course meets CS major learning outcomes including: Application: you will be able to apply the knowledge involved in creating and deploying digital devices to solve practical problems demonstrating a clear comprehension of the trade-offs involved in choices made throughout the lifetime of the system.
  4. Students will be able to write and publish digitally and analyze and produce audiovisual content in order to communicate through a variety of digital media (CCD LO1)
  5. Students will learn about privacy, security and data preservation issues (CCD LO2)
  6. Students will be able to formulate appropriate problems in a way that allows a computer to help solve them; students will have familiarity with automating these solutions through the implementation of algorithms, code or programmes (CCD LO4)
