2D Mixed Media is a course that demands experimentation. Each exercise will require the overlaying of at least two mutually compatible mediums to obtain visual effects that are impossible to achieve with a single medium. Further, non-traditional supports for each assignment will enhance the artwork of every student and introduce them to the many possibilities available to contemporary artists

Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will gain an appreciation of the mixed-media artworks that have been created over the centuries and deepen their understanding for both art-historical and contemporary contexts where mixed-media has been used.
  2. Students will improve their observational and manual skills with the many exercises required of them both in and out of the classroom;
  3. Students will learn how to create mixed-media works using proper materials and techniques to ensure the longevity of their art. By doing so, students will deepen their understanding of what is feasible and engaging in this “non-traditional” field of art;
  4. Students will learn to discern the differences between the many types of mixed-media work that they will encounter;
