INTRO TO SCULPTURE in Spring 2026 (AR1032)

This course is designed for students who have little or no previous experience in working with sculpture. Students will learn to create work in three dimensions from observation and imagination. A variety of sculptural materials and techniques will be introduced, furthering students' explorations of structure and form in space. There is an additional course fee for materials.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to identify, describe and resolve sculptural challenges in space including proportion, light and shadow, solid and void, using both additive and subtractive techniques.
Students will demonstrate agility with the basic materials and processes of sculpture.
Students will understand and apply architectural form in space with geometrical planes.
Local and Global Perspectives: Students will enhance their intercultural understanding of languages, cultures, and histories of local societies and the global issues to which these relate (LO1CCI)
Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Expression: Students will engage with artistic or creative objects (e.g., visual art, theatrical works, film) in different media and from a range of cultural traditions (LO2CCI)
