FRANCOPHONE CULTURE IN SHORTS (FR3012)

The course aims to broaden students’ understanding of the multicultural, historical, and social contexts of short productions across various Francophone regions, notably sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb, the overseas departments (such as the West Indies and Réunion Island), and Québec in Canada. For assessment, students will produce a journal and create short stories or films. Prerequisite: FR2100 or equivalent.

Learning Outcomes

Students will critically analyze short stories and short films from diverse Francophone regions, identifying key themes, cultural references, and techniques that reflect the historical, linguistic, and social contexts of each region.
Students will compare storytelling traditions in Francophone literature and cinema, examining how different regions use language, imagery, and structure to convey their unique perspectives and identities. Students will be encouraged to draw connections with their own culture(s).
